Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal was a polarizing film — a macho revenge fantasy that some saw as honest and others as deeply problematic. Animal Park makes no attempt to find middle ground. It doubles down on the excess, the violence, and the masculine posturing, and the result is a film that is simultaneously impressive in its craft and exhausting in its ideology.
Ranbir Kapoor delivers another committed performance, but the material gives him less to work with this time. The film's second half descends into a series of increasingly brutal set pieces that feel designed to provoke rather than to illuminate.
There are individual sequences of real power — the interval block is a technical marvel — but the whole is less than the sum of its parts. Vanga's talent is undeniable, but it deserves material worthy of it.
