Format As Communication
Screenplay format is not arbitrary. It was developed to communicate pacing. One page equals one minute of screen time. Dialogue centered. Action flush left. Everything serves the same purpose: letting the reader visualize the film.
The Professional Standard
Fountain, Fade In, Final Draft, Highland — the software does not matter. The standard does. If your script does not look like a script, the reader will not treat it like one.
